“Artsfest: 3rd & Fairfax” is an event being put on by Arts 94124, an exciting new grassroots organization recently formed by community residents to celebrate the longstanding tradition of art in the Bayview-Hunters Point (BVHP) district of San Francisco. The goal of the event is 3-fold: (1) to bring the entire Bayview community together to celebrate art, (2) to formally open the only community-run art gallery in Bayview-Hunters Point, and (3) to establish and publicize Arts 94124 as a catalyst for future community art projects and art-related events.
Artsfest 3rd & Fairfax’s main event will be the art gallery opening at 3900B 3rd Street, in which one hundred local artists’ work will be showcased. The adjacent Street (Faifax) will be closed off as a temporary community gathering space. Along the sidewalk there will be arts and crafts vendors selling their goods, a grill at which hamburgers, hotdogs, and vegetables will be grilled and given away, and a stage on which a series of bands will play. There will also be activities for children, located all along the closed off street, including a silk-screening station, chalk art, and a temporary mural installation project.
The event will take place on June 21st, between 12pm – 6pm.
